Intro to Engineering & Design

An introduction to all things engineering!

Quarter 1

Unit 1: Drawing & Sketching

This unit is all about different drawing and sketching techniques that engineers use to develop and share their ideas.

Unit 2: 3D Modeling

Here we’ll learn about Autodesk Inventor as a tool for making 3D models that we can then use to create prototypes.

Unit 3: LEGO Robots

Our third unit gives an introduction to programming, and then evolves into an exploration building robots with LEGOs!

Quarter 2

Unit 4: FTC Robotics

Our next adventure with robots is to build large metal robots for the annual FTC competition, where wild ideas are always possible.

Unit 5: Autodesk Inventor

The biggest unit of our semester has us learning all the ins-and-outs of Autodesk Inventor as we create complex 3D models of toy cars.

Unit 6: Individual Projects

The last unit of our semester gives you a chance to guide your own learning by designing your own project or seeking out a real certification!

Quarter 3

Unit 7: Arctic Innovation

Return to all things engineering as we dig in to the engineering design process and compete in the Arctic Innovation Design Competition.

Unit 8: Machines

Learn about simple machines like levers and pulleys, as well as complex machines like our laser and CNC mill.

Unit 9: FTC Robotics 2

This unit is all about different drawing and sketching techniques that engineers use to develop and share their ideas.

Quarter 4

Unit 10: Autodesk Mastery

Become a true pro at all things Autodesk Inventor as you make models and seek out an official certification!

Unit 11: Arduino

Get started with some electronics and digital circuitry as we pair programming with the Arduino platform.

Unit 12: Individual Projects

Our final unit of the year gives you a chance to seek out a certification, learn something wild and new, or design your own project!
